Autumn Term 2024

World War 2

Big Question: How do we remember?

Narrative: In Year 6, we’re exploring the big question: How do we remember? Our focus is on World War II, one of the most significant events in history. Millions of lives were affected, and it’s important that we never forget the bravery, the loss, and the lessons learned.

We can remember World War II in many ways. We can read books, watch documentaries, or listen to veterans’ stories. Museums and memorials help keep the memory alive by showing artifacts, photos, and personal accounts of those who lived through the war. Ceremonies like Remembrance Day, where we wear poppies and hold moments of silence, also honour those who fought for our freedom.

But how would you like to remember? You could write a poem, create art, or make a video to share these stories. We can remember in ways that speak to us personally, ensuring that the sacrifices made are never forgotten, and the peace won is valued.

In addition to remembering the events of World War II, it’s also important to think about how we’d like to be remembered in the future. What kind of legacy do we want to leave behind? Perhaps you want to be remembered for your kindness, your creativity, or the way you helped others. You could be remembered for the friendships you made, the challenges you overcame, or the positive difference you brought to the world. Maybe you’ll leave a lasting mark through your achievements in art, science, or even your dedication to making the world a better place. Just like we remember the heroes of the past, we can shape our own stories by the choices we make today. How do you want future generations to look back on your life?

Summer Term 2024

Change

Big Question: Is change a good thing?

Narrative: This term our children will learn about the personal changes they are currently experiencing through coming to the end of their primary education, and ready to transition to comprehensive school. We will consider the big question “Is change a good thing?” We will think about how change has already impacted their lives and how it will in the future. We will consider the many ways change effects our lives; through puberty, choices, behaviour, financial, geographical and historical, and how all these can impact our ever changing lives. Will all these changes be good? We will consider how change affects our ability to be ambitious and capable, ethically informed,, enterprising and healthy children in an ever changing world.
