Summer Term 2023

Land Ahoy!

Big Question-How can we make a change?

Narrative: This term our children will learn about their rights and responsibilities as members of their school and local community, in relation to the environment. We will consider the big question “Can we make a change?” and look at the local environment that we live in, and how we can make a change to make things better for the future. We will develop our problem-solving and inquiry skills to investigate the effects of people on our environment, and look at and interview the people and groups that are trying to make a difference. Using our inquiry skills and visits, learners will work collaboratively to think of ways that we can help in our school and local area, as well as the wider world. We will learn about our rights to a clean safe environment, and the importance of our opinions and actions to make a change. We will use this knowledge to bring about positive changes in our everyday actions and the wider school community. We will celebrate the work of the RNLI and Surfers against Sewage, who campaign to make a change.

Rights of the Child:

Article 12: I have the right my opinion and for adults to listen and take it seriously.

Article 13: I have the right to find out things and share my ideas with others by drawing, talking and writing.

Article 24: I have the right to the best healthcare possible, safe water to drinknutritious food, a clean safe environment and information to help you stay well.

Spring Term 2023

All Creatures Great and Small!

Big Question: What do animals need to survive?

Narrative: This term our children will learn about the diversity of living things, and that all living things require specific conditions and resources to survive.  We will consider the big question “What do animals need to survive?”  We will develop our problem-solving and inquiry skills to investigate what animals need, and the effect that people can have on animals. We will look at, and interview the people who own animals, and groups that are trying to make a difference. Using our inquiry skills and visits, learners will work collaboratively to investigate and compare the structure of living things, and how they can flourish, grow and develop. We will look at ways that we can help animals in our school and local area, as well as the wider world. We will learn about our rights to a clean safe environment, and the importance of our opinions and actions to make a change. We will use this knowledge to bring about positive changes in our everyday actions and the wider school community. We will celebrate the work of the ‘Dogs Trust’ and ‘RSPCA’, who campaign to make a change, and help animals have a better life, and a better chance of survival.

Rights of the Child:
