Spring Term 2025

Big Question – Why is Wales Unique?

NARRATIVE

This topic takes Year 5 on an exciting journey to explore the concept of Welsh identity through the lens of Cynefin—our sense of place—and how culture, language, geography, and history shape who we are. It is worthwhile because it nurtures curiosity, pride, and empathy, helping learners develop as ethical, informed citizens and creative contributors in line with the Four Purposes. By engaging in authentic experiences such as mapping local landmarks, writing poetry, investigating landscapes, and examining Wales’ past and future, learners will deepen their understanding of belonging and sustainability while strengthening teamwork, creativity, and digital competence. We will try to answer essential questions such as Should we always protect our cultural traditions? and Should identity be shaped by where we live?, encouraging critical thinking and reflection. This work will integrate literacy, numeracy, and digital skills, alongside values and attitudes, ensuring learners progress not only in knowledge but in their ability to collaborate, innovate, and make informed decisions about their world.

A great way to develop your child’s confidence in learning is for them to spend at least 10 minutes a day encouraging your child to read, whether that be silently to themselves or aloud, this has s huge impact on all language skill and development.

Water Bottles/ Snack

Water bottles to be brought daily to school please. A snack will be provided for breaktime or alternatively, you can send in a snack for your child.
